  Family Vignette—Thomas Hemingway and Martha Levious Thomas Hemingway, son of William Hemingway and Hannah Taylor, was born November 11, 1790, in West Hallem, Derbyshire, England.   He was the fourth child of seven children in the family, five boys and two girls. Little is known of his early life. Thomas was a tailor and it is recorded that he fought against Napoleon in the battle of Waterloo.   His commander was the Duke of Wellington who defeated Napoleon.   Family Vignette-Hannah Kett Hannah Kett was born around 1792 in Wissett, Suffolk, England.   Her father was Francis Kett 1773-1845 and her mother was Hannah Liddamore 1771-1843.   Hannah was baptised at the parish church in Wissett on August 10, 1794. In 1817, Hannah had an illegitimate son, William Scarfe Kett, and the father was named as William Scarff Kett, 1794-1869.   This child was raised by Hannah’s parents, Francis   and Hannah. ( You may recall that the story posted about Samuel Kett, the miller from Wenhaston who was tried and convicted for burning his mill for the insurance money.   The story was posted in November 2025.   William Scarfe Kett was also a miller in Wenhaston and ran the water mill.   He was called, along with his wife Bridget Mahon, to offer testimony during the trial of Samuel Kett who was his 1 st cousin 1x removed.)   Heroes and Rebels in the Family Tree--Alfred Ablett, VC Bottom of Form Alfred Ablett ( 3 August 1830 – 12 March 1897) was a British Army soldier and recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. A soldier with the Grenadier Guards during the Crimean War, he was awarded the VC for his actions on 2 September 1855, during the siege of Sebastopol. Early life Alfred Ablett was born on 3 August 1830 at Weybread, Suffolk, the tenth of thirteen children of Samuel Ablett and Elizabeth Crockford.
